Delta Force: Disaster Preparedness
The charge of the Delta Force was to develop a scope of work that addressed some aspect of disaster preparedness. The group chose to focus on family preparedness. Delta Force set out to develop a media kit that any community or county in the Delta Region could implement to encourage family disaster preparedness.
Delta Shapers: Wellness & Obesity
Delta Shapers were charged with the ever-growing epidemic of obesity. They set out to establish a project that would directly impact Alabama and Louisiana and become a model for other Delta Region Perishes and Counties. The Delta Shapers’ goal was to increase awareness in two Delta cities of the healthy benefits of walking Delta Shapers were charged with the ever-growing epidemic of obesity. DRMR: Delta Regional Medical Recruitment
The DRMR was charged with developing a healthcare recruitment and retention program that creates a viable healthcare cluster in the rural Delta. DRMR had three objectives: Create a Grant Infrastructure Program that would help communities to incubate, build, or expand medical services and/or medical technology; Develop a Recruitment and Incentive Package for Providers and related businesses that enable communities to build a viable healthcare cluster; Identify one to two Delta communities in which to “roll out” or test the model program.
I.C.E: School Based Health Initiatives
I.C.E. stands for Inclusiveness, Community Health, Education. This team was charged with bringing health to the public school system. I.C.E. chose to address the task of mental health in high schools. They introduced a best practice program from Illinois to Louisiana. The Lifesavers Program is a teen suicide, peer pressure prevention program. LifeSavers are high school students who have gone through intense training sessions, learning how to listen to their classmates, look for warning signs and help classmates with their problems. The program promotes positive communication, positive role models, self-esteem, trust and respect.
LightSpeed: Tele-Medicine
LightSpeed was issued the challenge of a lack of basic healthcare where distance is a barrier particularly in rural areas. The team set out to demonstrate the use of telemedicine as a way to effectively provide medical services to support health care when distance separates the participants. |
